Roll, roll, roll your skate… gently across the rink.
The spawning season for chinook salmon isn’t for another six months, but I couldn’t wait to birth my own salmon creation. So here ya go! I used a simple three color pallet (cyan, magenta & yellow) multiplied together—which I’ve always been a big fan of because you then get a total of seven colors as they blend together in different combinations. So something that’s pretty simple and basic can become more dynamic depending on how you overlap the three layers, akin to screen printing.
Incredibly touching and inspiring to see such confident avocado. Way to go, and keep it up, friends!
Eight years ago, I doodled out this strange, tentacle armed fellow on pencil and paper, and for whatever reason he’s always stuck out in my head. So I decided to give him some color and a second digital life here. And green looks good on him. Anyway, Happy Halloween, everyone!
Just because this adorable little baby died along with a campaign that unfortunately didn’t make the cut doesn’t mean it must stay dead. So the act of being resurrected in a simple blog post will have to suffice (one that, lets be honest, few people probably read—but thank you for your viewership whoever you are!). So anyway, sorry baby, this will have to do.
Do you ever just feel like drawing a fox? Well, that’s how I was feeling the other day. So I did. Started out in Photoshop and ended up finishing it in Adobe Fresco, which is a pretty cool new-ish program from Adobe if you haven’t given it a try. Highly recommended for illustrating foxes and many other various non-fox things as well.
To celebrate Earth Day, Seattle Goodwill teamed up with KEXP to put on a concert with local bands Ivan & Alyosha and Lemolo to help raise awareness about how donating to Goodwill can help keep more clothing, books and other household items out of landfills.
Research showed the average person throws away 70 lbs. of clothing every year. So along with the Sustainable Sounds concert, we also partnered with local Seattle influencers to promote #Give1Pound to help reduce clothing waste in landfills—so we asked them to just Give1Pound of donations to Goodwill.
We look at our computers all day long (at least it seems like I do). Whether it’s a laptop, or a smartphone, or an iPad tablet bla bla, our eyes are often glued to some type of screen. But that also means these high tech devices are looking back at us, right? Why not.
So with that in mind, Compeoples were born – digital faces you add to your computerly devices to bring out their inner personality. Check them out:
All the computer wallpapers are built to 1440×900, but if you’d like any different size, just email me and I’ll make one up. Same goes for colors or faces (if they work for the proportions). I also tried to get the iPhone5 wallpapers to fit nicely in between the lock screen UI, and to work nicely both vertical and horizontal for the iPad. But either way, I hope you guys like them and actually use them. I know when I pull out my phone and see it smiling back, it does kinda brighten my day in a small way. Obviously my computer desktop is usually too cluttered with crap for that to happen much, but it certainly can’t hurt.
A circus without a ringmaster is nothing but chaos. With him, controlled chaos. He makes sure everything runs smoothly, directs the show and keeps uppity lions in check. So when the decision was made to create a full cast of circus characters to go along with Magnus the Strongman, it only made sense to start with the ringmaster.
So without further adieu, please direct your attention to center stage and give a warm round of applause to The Ringmaster, Mr. St. George.
Also, check out Lead • Ink • Pixels here if you want to see the original sketch.
The fate of most doodles is that of certain death. Whether it be to the recycling bin or lost in the depths of an old notebook, doodles are usually drawn and forgotten.
Well, I can’t stand to watch this continue any longer. I’ve decided to dust off my old Tumblr and give these little guys a place to live for the rest of eternity (or until the internet gets too large and collapses in on itself). So I now present to you, Lead • Ink • Pixels – an ever growing collection of random sketches, doodles and whatever else may fall from the tip of my writing instrument.
So go check it out. It’s not very full right now, but give it time and I assure you it will be.
After weeks of nervously waiting by the mailbox, the envelope I sent off to the Lil’ Happy Invisible Creature S.A.S.E. Club finally arrived. It had left empty, but this time it came back filled with the printed bounty of the fine folks at Invisible Creature. There were stickers and cards and bookmarks and all kinds of goodies for a full visual splendor. My rods and cones were pushed to their limits.
A big thanks and much appreciation goes out to the guys at Invisible Creature. I can’t think of a better use of a few envelopes, stamps and our mighty United States Postal Service. Hopefully this won’t be the last we’ll see of the Lil’ Happy Invisible Creature S.A.S.E. Club.
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls. Step right up and prepare your eyes to see the strongest man in the whole wide world. You’ve heard the stories, you’ve told the tales. Well, brace yourself for the real thing. He stands a full 6 feet 8 inches tall, weighs in at over 310 lbs, and comes to us all the way from Kitzbühel, Austria. The one, the only, the mightiest man this side of the equator, Magnus the Strongman.
I’ve been trying my best to post a wide range of things that make, whether that be photography, ads or a pin made from a root beer bottle cap. Unfortunately, one thing that has been sorely overlooked has been my illustration. Well, here is a step in the right direction, and a commitment to keep doing more.
So that brings us to Magnus the Strongman. He doesn’t have a purpose other than I wanted to draw him. Actually, he was laying around from an old project that got derailed, and I never got to finish him. So after some more attention, he gets to finally see the light of day.
I’m cutting it close, but last night I whipped up an envelope and dropped it in the mail for the Lil’ Happy Invisible Creature S.A.S.E. Club, put on by none other than the very talented guys of Invisible Creature. Luckily, it won’t have to travel far from Seattle to make it to Seahurst, WA, because the deadline is Sept 1st.
It’s a pretty cool deal they have going on here. You design and send them a self-addressed stamped envelope, then they send it back with all kinds of mystery goodies. And they could be sending anything. Well, probably not live animals, drugs or explosives because those are prohibited by the USPS. But there’s a lot of cool stuff you can fit inside a #10 envelope and if there’s anyone to fill it it with amazing stuff it’s Invisible Creature. Plus, the whole thing is a fun idea all around.
So if you’ve yet to send in an envelope to the Lil’ Happy Invisible Creature S.A.S.E Club, perhaps there’s still time. Grab some markers, paints or whatever and get to it. Don’t miss an opportunity for a bit of nostalgia and a chance to use the postal service for what they’re really intended for, bringing you cool stuff.
